I wish to understand how the noise and sensitivity of the detector is found and a sensitivity curve is produced.

For any instrument, the first step will be the noise calculation. Scientists will design a device response to both noise and signals. Usually one can find a theoretical calculation for the instrumental noise. With the noise produced, PSD estimation on noise can give out the curve indicating the detector’s sensitivity band and all other things.
Could I get any references for the theoretical calculation for PSD estimation?
